One of my vivid childhood memories, is that of my grandmother singing "Luna Mezzo Mare (Lazy Mary)" to me. While I don't think it was her intention, years later I realized my grandmother was treating me to a very risque little ditty (explains a lot).
Recently, I read a story about two Miami women who'd created a grandparent doll that sings Spanish nursery rhymes and thought, "What a great idea!". Abuelita Rosa wears her bata de casa, y Abuelito Pancho proudly dons his guayabera. There are "baby" dolls in the line as well as books and, you can even purchase ring tones... Campanitas!
This Saturday, November 17th at 4 p.m., Baby Abuelita Dolls will be in the "Miracle on 136th Street" Parade at The Falls .
What did your grandma, abuela, nana, or mimi sing to you? Let me know - post a comment, please!
