Snakes, llamas, & Yaks, oh my!

Too many South Floridians seem to be releasing their exotic pets into the wild; usually, the Everglades. Not only does dumping unwanted pets threaten our native species, it's not very nice. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is looking for animal lovers willing to adopt unwanted exotic pets. You can sign up by phone until December 21st at 850-926-0128.*
If you own an exotic pet and don't want to, South Florida's first nonnative pet amnesty day is February 23rd, 2008. You can give up your unwanted exotic at Miami MetroZoo, no questions asked. No, husbands don't count...



* A formal certification process will being in January, 2008. You must be at least 18 years old, with no history of felonies, wildlife or animal cruelty violations, and no resource or captive wildlife violations for the past three years. Adopters must have knowledge of natural history and caging requirements and have the proper facilities for the animals they are interested in adopting. There is no fee for being a certified adopter.

Keep tabs on Santa

The North American Aerospace Defense Command or NORAD is the organization in charge of NTS - NORAD tracks Santa. You can track Santa in 3-D, and check out the SantaCam, even send Santa an email.
