A large thanks to all who attended the 4th Annual Work-Life Balance Conference today. The keynote speaker was Naomi Judd, who provided this little nugget:
Think of the word change as an acronym - it stands for Chance to Have A New Growth Experience! And her mantra... SHIFT happens.
There was also a panel of very accomplished South Florida business women; Moderator and Herald Columnist Cindy Krichher Goodman wrote an article featuring some of the ladies from the panel.

Girls Like Us
It's a triple biography on some massive muliebrity! Sheila Weller wrote the book Girls Like Us: Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon - and the Journey of a Generation. Think of the state of womanhood in the 1940's, when all of these women were born, and then the changes these women helped to make via their songs in the 1960's and 1970's; expressing feelings that heretofore went unsaid... or unheard.

Tolls go up, Alley leased?
Florida lawmakers may raise tolls on the Florida Turnpike by 25% beginning July 1st. A trip on the entire length of the turnpike, from Florida City to Wildwood, would go from $21.20 to $26.50.
The Florida Department of Transportation has plans to hold a forum this Thursday, with companies interested in leasing Alligator Alley! That potentially means the 78-mile highway could end up in the hands of private interests. What does that mean to you... CHA CHING; tolls could go from the $2/2.50 now, to $6/10 bucks within the first decade. If a company is decided on, and the state's Legislative Budget Commission signs off on the deal, the lease could be in place by years' end.
The forum is open to the public, but it's in Orlando.
We may have to bring back the nickname Blood Alley - as in, what do you want, my blood?

State bird mocking us

Florida's State Bird, the Mockingbird, has been the source of much ruckus! It's mating season, so Senor Mockingbird makes mating calls all night long and he has individual and large repertoires (not as naughty as it sounds). If you hear him repeating things around three times, this is a key to a Mockingbird looking for a mate. Singing all night near a light during breeding season is typical mockingbird behavior.
Once Mr. M finds a mate, the nesting portion is a tad quieter, but not nicer; Mockingbirds aggressively protect their nests, whether they need to or not!
And if that Mockingbird don't sing, it must not be a male in the spring!!!!
