    Mosquito bites

UPDATE (7/17/08): With even more rain it's gotten even worse - a mosquito boom, it's being called.

The itch is worse than the bite! I'm talking mosquitoes, and if you're like me, you're a smorgasbord for the blood-sucking insects. The Midwest is now overrun with them because of the flooding, and for us, the rainy season brings them on. The first step is to eliminate their breeding sites. The second step is to gather an army of lizard warriors and unleash them!

    Pre-paid gas cards

UPDATE (7/17/08): MyGallons.com will give refunds to nearly 6,000 customers, and current customers will be offered a free year's membership.
UPDATE: The Better Business Bureau has given MyGallons an 'F' rating. As of this update (July 9, 2008), MyGallons was planning to meet with the BBB for a reevaluation.

A Miami-based company called MyGallons is offering you an opportunity not unlike the USPS does with their Forever Stamp. Pre-buy gasoline at the current price and fill up later without paying the higher prices. The company has no limit on redeeming the gas; so say you buy now at $4.07 and a year later gas is $7.20 (don't laugh, while it is exaggerated, it's not that farfetched), you save $3.13 a gallon! There is an annual fee for the service and about 95% of gas stations around the country participate.

    Fireworks Fiesta

While you most certainly should be joining LITE FM at the Star-Spangled Spectacular, there are other 4th-festivities going on throughout the Tri-County area.

Here's where you can find us on Friday:

Hollywood: The Star-Spangled Spectacular kicks off at 3 p.m. on the Broadwalk with 101.5 Lite FM's live broadcast. Hollywood Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a patriotic medley from 6-7:15 p.m. at the Johnson Street Beach Theatre. Tropical rockers Jimmy Stowe & the Stowaways take the stage at 8 p.m. and after the fireworks. Family entertainment will include Police Pipe & Drum Corps, Riverside Dixieland Band, face painting, balloon twisting, and airbrush tattoos. Interact with Uncle Sam and other historical characters as they stroll along the Broadwalk. Offshore fireworks begin at 9 p.m. with 101.5 Lite FM simulcasting. Due to limited parking, it's recommended that you take advantage of the free shuttle operating from 4-8 p.m. between Fred Lippman Multi-Purpose Center, 2030 Polk Street and Johnson Street/A1A. Shuttles resume after the fireworks. 954-921-3404.
Mui Importante! No alcoholic beverages, glass containers, coolers, fireworks or sparklers are permitted on the beach!
