Let's hear it for the girls!

A big "hip, hip, hooray" for the double X chromosome!

First, Barbara Morgan; she was the runner-up when a teacher was chosen to go into space some 22 years ago. She was watching from a Nasa viewing area as colleague and chosen teacher, Christa McAuliffe boarded the ill-fated Space Shuttle Challenger. Then, 17 years later, Mrs. Morgan was in a NASA plane waiting to escort the Space Shuttle Columbia home. She was scheduled to fly on Columbia's next mission. Finally, tonight, Barbara Morgan is in space. The Space Shuttle Endeavor lifted off for an eleven day mission on the International Space Station.

Next, we get local! Ms. Dana Torres of Parkland, broke her own American record in the 50 meter freestyle at the USA Swimming National Championships in Indianapolis. She broke her first record at 14 - she broke this latest record at 40... 16 months after giving birth to her daughter!

Last, certainly not least, and while we're still in the pool, Leila Vaziri of Ft. Lauderdale. She started swimming at age 7 at the Coral Springs Aquatic Complex and, 15 years later, hopes to make the Olympic Team. The Summer Olympics in Beijing, China begin one year from today.
    Swim, Leila, Swim.

You make me proud to be part of the muliebrity posse!
