    Paying for accidents

The Town of Davie will vote on October 15th as to whether they'll charge at-fault drivers for police and fire rescue crews responding to accident scenes. The town already has given the preliminary okay vote, and the original October 1st final vote date has been bumped to the 15th.
This idea is so controversial, 5 states have passed a law to ban the practice. What do you think?

This is disgusting! What next, pay for service before service like the medical profession!!! What are taxes for! This will snowball... What will the Residents of Davie think when, for example, the City of Sunrise do the same and then THEY will have to pay up! If the police just did more patrolling at stop streets and traffic lights they would have more than enough to fill up the money cup. An accident is after all "an accident".

Shame, seems Davie Police think they work more than other Cities because of the location of the Interstates and think they deserve the extra money! Must be tough to do the job you love - "Protect and Serve". They should be proud that they can provide such a wide service. As for charging for this service... Bah humbug!!! Does it matter where the accident is? Of course not! It's in the taxes every employee pays regardless of where he lives. What about Davie residents having accidents in other jurisdictions, they get off Scot Free all round. Talk about creating gang territory!

I do want to make clear, it's not Davie police that want this charge, but the Town Council of Davie. A Davie councilwoman says it's a way to recoup the costs of responding to accidents although, residents already pay for that. Cost Recovery Corp., an Ohio-based company that would be acting as Davie's collection agency, claims 70% of accidents in Davie are from out-of-towners.

Does anyone have the statistics on how many accidents in all the other cities are from "out of towners". Most or all of them I would imagine, Nobody just travels around in there own city afterall.
